Hello there! I teach in a very "person-centered" way that starts with a striving to recognize and accept all students for who they are as people. I seek to create an inclusive and warm learning environment in which all students feel free and able to discuss course material. Emphasis is placed on active learning, where students are encouraged to ask questions and discuss the material they learn. This class has been adapted based on material taught in my PSY-110: Psychological Well-Being...

Students will be engaged with many ideas about psychology. By the end of the course they will be familiar with different ways of thinking about themselves and others; understand and be able to employ various strategies for dealing with stress; be able to practice empathy and compassion for themselves and others; and will have a better understanding of their values and what matters to them in life.
I have bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology and have taught aspects of this course for a year and a half at the college level. I also have 5+ years of experience in mindfulness/meditation and am in my second year of study for a master's degree in social work and psychotherapy.

It may be helpful for students to attend a session or two of my weekly course on mindfulness and meditation (https://outschool.com/classes/ab0b9bfb-dca7-4bd7-bf4d-c6731a37e0f0), but this is in no way required to complete the present course.
One-page handouts with extra information will be provided each week.

The material for the course is based on content from Iona Boniwell's Positive Psychology in a Nutshell: The Science of Happiness. The textbook, however, is not required; students will not be using it directly.
**If a course you are interested in does not fit your schedule, contact me and we can work out a day that is good for your student. I am currently unable to teach on Mondays and Wednesdays.** Hi there! I'm Matt, and psychology is the main subject...
