Class experience

Class one will be an introductory. We will meet each other and discuss (if any) experience a student may already have. We will talk about what the martial arts is about and how we use it. This lesson will also include the first part of our session which is learning 8 basic blocks. Class two: we will begin with a review of our blocks from last time and then we will continue to learn all the basic hand strikes we learn at this belt. Class three: We will review all we learned from class one and two and them proceed to learn our basic kicks for this belt. In addiiton, we will learn our first "punch in technique". Class four will include a review of all previous sessions and then we will learn our next punch in technique. In this same session, we will have an assessment of what we have learned. This is where they earn their yellow belt. All sessions will include calisthenics, a stretch and at the end a talk about karate.
Being involved in the martial arts for over 35 years and personaly teaching 1000's of students ranging in age from 4-through adult, I have encountered every type of learner. This can only be acquired through time, which i have had plenty of. In addition, I have experienced the training needed to becomenthe 5th degree belt I am and have operated a dojo for over 27 years. In addition, as a 3rd grade teacher, I am constantly working with children and different ways to teach them.

Please make sure students have a space they can move around. Bare foot or sneakers are recommended, not socks. Keep water with you and use whenever needed. Parents should be present to assist students if need be and to help keep them safe. Although materials are not needed, students may choose to purchase a uniform (gi), blockers, striking bags and/or matts. Price varies from distributor to distributor.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Martial arts is all about defense. We talk about striking and how this can effect another person. We also targets such as the groin, or private area will be named as such in discussion. Please be sure that students are supervised during this activity. It is recommended that students are barefoot, have an open space to move around,, a water bottle if needed and please stretch prior to the class to avoid injury.
