Learners will participate in a lively, exciting discussion on story characters. The two characters that we will be discussing are as follows: Lord of the Rings wizard-Gandalf the Grey and Harry Potter wizard - Albus Dumbledore. The topic will be deciding and discussing which wizard is more powerful, most respected, and most beloved. The discussion will then turn to a list of strengths and weaknesses. The teacher will structure the class like a debate. The teacher will give background information about each wizard. Each student will have time to present their opinion. During the debate, the teacher will ask questions and record topics as they are presented. The teacher encourage rebuttals of the information presented. At the end, the learners will participate in a vote to determine the winner. Learners will leave with a greater understand of the two wizards.
Learning Goals
Learners will work on debating skills, knowledge of text, opinion presentation, and actively listening. Note taking will be encouraged, as people will want to defend their wizards skill.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I love these fantasy and sci-fi stories. I am a mother of a Harry Potter fanatic and she loves to tell me what her opinions are on most topics. As a teacher, it helps to teach students how to convince people and speak to others in a proper way and being respectful.
