This class is a history meets literature type of class- helping learners to develop skills in multiple areas! This is a student-led, teacher supported, class discussion of the book "Where the Red Fern Grows". I have a BA in Political Science, a MA in secondary teaching certification in all social subjects 5-12 and a post-Masters degree in educational technology to enhance learning. I've taught social studies subjects for 10+ years, with a majority of my experiences teaching American History. I've also attended several workshops and professional development opportunities focused on incorporating America's past in current discussions about today's landmarks, historic buildings and monuments.
The book "Where the Red Fern Grows" should be purchased or downloaded. I will supply other resources, which can be downloaded or printed.
I will provide ongoing formative assessment and can provide parents with individualized assessment if they want it.
3 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
As with many social science topics, sensitive material/topics are likely to occur. As a certified and professional teacher, I will work hard to assure that all discussion/content is age appropriate. Without giving away huge details in the book, parents should be advised that there are sad elements involving death.
