US Grade 4 - 6
This session is open to anyone. If you want to take your creative writing up a notch, this paragraphing session will transform your big block of writing into easy-to-read paragraphs like the books you read. The biggest struggle I personally had in the 7th grade was paragraphing, and although I was a pretty good writer, I literally "winged it" using writer's intuition which was hit or miss. More often than not, I was left with huge blocks of writing. This mental block from 7th-grade-me has me offering this class to creative writers. I promise it's not as hard as it feels. You will: * understand the importance of paragraphing * understand the reasons to use a new paragraph as I give clearcut rules for paragraph changing * be able to break your writing into meaningful sections once you understand when to use paragraphs * improve the readability of your writing and clear up confusion for your reader Session 1: We will nail down some concrete rules for changing paragraphs with examples as a whole class. You will begin writing a fiction story from one of the prompts on my writing list, keeping these rules in mind. Session 2: You will come to class and receive a story written by me (one of the three prompt choices given during session 1) - written without paragraphs - so that you can physically break it into paragraphs on a Google document. I will provide you a link to the story, show you how to make a copy for yourself, and allow you to break the writing where it should be broken. During the second portion of class, you will continue with the writing prompt from the first session and then share if time permits. Requirements: Google Docs (you will need to borrow your parent's account or use a Google account not associated with your school)
Learning Goals
Students will learn the art of paragraphing, one of the trickiest writing skills known to humankind!
