US Grade 4 - 7
In this self-paced course, students will read the graphic novel, When Stars Are Scattered and engage in Kahoot- and Quizizz-based games designed to assess plot comprehension, build vocabulary, scaffold an exploration of literary elements like point of view, flashback, and figurative language, and facilitate an analysis of how the unique features of a graphic novel work together to tell a story. In-game prompts and questions will encourage students to think critically and to support their conclusions with textual evidence, and/or draw connections between the reading, their own lives, and the world around them.
Learning Goals
Students will increase their understanding of how literary elements like point of view, figurative language, character development, tone, and setting work together to tell a story.
Students will hone critical thinking skills by exploring larger questions about immigration, the refugee crisis, and global responsibility.
