In this one-time course, students will have an opportunity to share about a loss, disappointment, or grief they have experienced. They will be introduced to different methods of coping and learn to process grief in a healthy way.

Description
Class Experience
Students will begin or continue to learn coping skills to deal with loss, disappointment, and grief. They will create a "map" to help them cope with current or future challenges.
I have a degree in mental health counseling (this class is not a substitute for a counseling session). I worked for many years with children, adolescents, and families in outpatient and residential settings. I have also worked closely with individuals and families who have experienced significant losses.
Required: -Several sheets of paper (lined or unlined) -Pen/pencil Recommended for during or after class to continue processing: -Journal -Markers/colored pens -Various art supplies
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parents may request feedback from teacher. Any safety concerns for a student will be addressed proactively with the parent.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Topics may include heavy emotions and illicit strong feelings from students. Due to the sensitive nature of topics, parents are encouraged to process contents of class with students. There is no guarantee of confidentiality in this format, however we will discuss the importance of creating a safe, trusting environment. This class is intended to provide tools for students, not replace counseling or professionally recommended outlets.
