Class Experience

All too often math classes focus on teaching the "how" and "what" of math, and neglect to explain the "why". Most people understand why arithmetic is useful to our day-to-day lives, but what is the point of math beyond that? How could math possibly be applicable to art or writing? Through this FLEX class, we will explore applications of math throughout history, connecting the historical context of applications to the modern world and our own lives.

The class draws inspiration from many sources, but the following books are excellent resources that I strongly recommend everyone read:
