What's Your Opinion? Multi-Paragraph Opinion Writing Class
Class experience
US Grade 4 - 6
In this 5-week class, students will learn how to brainstorm, research, and write a multi-paragraph opinion paper trying to persuade their audience to agree with their opinion. The teacher will use many resources such as graphic organizers, Internet searches, and sample opinion papers to guide students through the opinion writing process. During each class a mini writing lesson will be taught. Then students will have time to try the skill on their own and ask for help as needed during class....
1. Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information. a. Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which ideas are logically grouped to support the writer’s purpose. b. Provide logically ordered reasons that are supported by facts and details. c. Link opinion and reasons using words, phrases, and clauses (e.g., consequently, specifically). d. Provide a concluding statement or section related to the opinion presented.
In the 20 plus years I have been teaching, I have taught many students how to write organized, detailed essays using the writing process.

Students will need to research and complete any writing that they did not get done during the class session.Assessments Offered
If you would like your student to be graded on their writing piece for your homeschooling portfolio, you can send me the final draft and I will complete a rubric along with notes on their progress during the class.Grades Offered
Students will have outlines to print for each class to help keep their essays organized. Learners will also need a pencil, paper, eraser and highlighter.

Students may need to use Google Docs or Word to complete their final draft. Kiddle, KidzSearch and Safe Search Kids are all safe search engines for kids. Students will use these search engines to search for facts that support their opinion.
