In this fun & educational class, we will use comprehension strategies to make sense of funny "Halloween" images. Strategies we'll use include: predicting, inferring, analyzing, using context clues, clarifying, and making connections.

This one-time class will be fun and discussion-based with an academic twist. Learners will observe funny "Halloween" images of kids and common Halloween situations, and through guided conversation, implement comprehension strategies to gain a clear understanding of each image and its intent. Our lesson will consist of humorous age-appropriate pictures, GIF's, and memes, that will intrigue learners and will give us engaging opportunities to practice using comprehension skills while having accountable conversation and fun. The class will contain interactive activities, guided conversation, and a lot of laughter!
Learning Goals
Participants will learn to use comprehension skills to infer the intent of visual media. They will be able to think critically about an image and what it represents.

Hello, my name is Alane Wright and I am excited to teach with Outschool! I will be providing classes with a strong focus on English Language Arts, Science, and Math grades 2-6. I am a certified teacher with a degree in Elementary Education and endorsements in Prek-3rd, Early Childhood Development, English as a Second Language, and Exceptional Student Education. I also hold a current Florida Educator's Certificate in Elementary Education.
My experience includes over 23 years of teaching in an array of situations from preschool to sixth grade, and two years teaching English online. I have planned instruction for large groups over 100, classes of 20-30, small groups, and individuals. I am well versed in adjusting my level of instruction based on the needs of my learners. One of my favorite things to teach outside of school is kickball, I'm a coach for a team in my community!
The most important thing about me is that I am really passionate about helping children ENJOY learning. I want to foster a thirst for learning in each student, so I work hard to make my lessons engaging, attainable, challenging, and most of all....FUN!
