Description

Class Experience

Students will learn:
•	A base scone recipe
•	How to add ingredients to the base recipe to create scone flavors
•	How to zest a lemon
•	The sequence of steps for this scone bake
•	Tips and tricks for the best scone bake

As an artisan scone baker for our local farmer's market, I have had great success baking scones, and I love helping others learn the ease of baking delicious scones to share with their families.   Also, throughout my twenty-five years of teaching, I have helped  learners actively engage and love the process of learning.  
Students may want to try other mix in ingredients with the base scone recipe to create another batch of scones on their own.

Students will need the following ingredients: 2 cups All Purpose Flour ½ cup sugar 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder ½ teaspoon salt 1 Stick of Butter (Chilled) 1 Egg 2/3 cup Heavy Cream (Chilled) 1 cup Dried Blueberries 1 Lemon 1 cup Powdered Sugar Students will also need the following kitchen utensils: Mixer with paddle blade, lemon zester (microplane grater), wet & dry measuring cups, measuring spoons, baking sheet pan, parchment paper or reusable baking sheet, hot pads, oven The Lemon Blueberry Recipe ( Document available upon registration) ** If student does not have a mixer, these scones are easily made by hand. Students mixing by hand will need a pastry cutter for cutting in the butter. I am happy to guide students through this as needed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed by their participation in the bake along and the completion of the bake.  Students may wish to upload a picture of their baked scones to show their final product. 
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
For younger students, parental guidance with the mixer and oven may be needed for safety.  Allergen  alert: This recipe contains wheat, eggs and milk.
