In this two-session class, students will have the opportunity to explore, calculate, and analyze their environmental footprints, as well as pledge some ways they will reduce their own impact on the environment!

"What is an ecological footprint? What's MY ecological footprint? How does the way I live affect the planet? What can I do to reduce my impact on the environment?"... If your child wants answers to any of these questions, then this is the class for them! This is a two-session class where students will gain a deeper understanding of how humans have an impact on the planet, the current environmental crisis, and ways that we can make a difference in our own lives. Students will learn what an Ecological Footprint is, and will practice using an online tool to calculate their own footprints. They will learn about Earth Overshoot Day, and understand why this day is significant. Students will also compare, contrast, and analyze their footprints, and explore ways we can lower our footprints as a society AND as individuals.
I am a trained and qualified Science Teacher, and have taught in-school lessons on this topic in the past. In addition, while obtaining my Bachelor of Education, my Concentration was in Environmental Education.
Homework Offered
After the first class, students are required to calculate their own Ecological Footprint using the calculator provided by the Global Footprint Network (you can find the link below in the Materials section). They will be given one handout that they will use in both classes, as well as to record their results during this homework task.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

1 file available upon enrollmentA one-page handout will be provided, to be used during both classes and the homework. Students are encouraged to bring a pen to both classes for note-taking. We will also be creating a graph in the second class; students may want to bring some markers or coloured pencils to create their graph.
