Class Experience

During this class, learners will be introduced to how we use the prefrontal cortex, amygdala, and hippocampus. We will discuss how they can help us make wise choices about our actions and words, how we can react differently to situations, and how we can calm ourselves using our brain.

- We will be engaging in class discussion about how we individually use our brains ( learners are encouraged to participate in discussion but it's not mandatory)
- Use a brain poster to discuss the different parts and functions
- Exploring where these parts are using our 'brain hands' model
- Reflecting with an activity sheet and playing 'The Question Box'
- We'll wrap up by discussing careers relating to the brain, how we can think daily about how we used our brain that day, and how big breaths can help to clam our amygdala!

Learning Goals

Learners will learn about three parts of the brain, their functions, and how we can use them to help us.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Outschool families! My name is Angela and I have over 20 years experience teaching children in a variety of different areas. Children inspire me everyday with their curiosity to learn, and they give me so much passion and energy to teach!

I have my BA in Early Childhood Education from Ryerson University in Canada, TESOL certificate from TEFL International in Costa Rica, and my Mindfulness for Teachers Certificate from Phuket International Academy in Thailand. I’ve combined my love of teaching with my love of travelling and it has been an incredible experience. While living in Thailand for seven years, I had the opportunity to work in international schools and teach children from all over the world. I have experience in ECE, ESL, working with children with autism and other learning needs, mindfulness for children, and social and emotional development. I have worked in Early Childhood centres, International schools, private tutoring, ABA therapy, and online teaching.

My philosophy for teaching is that anyone can learn, we just learn in different ways. Great learning comes from igniting passion from interests and curiosity. When we are passionate and interested in something we can create learning in all areas of development. I believe as teachers, it is our obligation to find creative ways to guide children in learning concepts and discovering their passions. I also believe it is important to follow their lead in learning to be able to provide an environment where they can expand their critical thinking, problem solving, and creative skills.

I enjoy going to the beach, snowboarding, reading, and hanging out with my rescue dog Lucky that I brought home from Thailand!

Looking forward to seeing you in my classes!

Thank you,
Teacher Angela.
