Kids who are involved in meal planning tend to be more open to trying new foods and eat better, healthier meals throughout their lives. About 23 years ago I discovered a real love of cooking. While I nursed my first new baby I obsessively watched cooking shows, scoured cookbooks, and joined my grandmother and father (both brilliant cooks) in the kitchen. Since I started cooking, I have had 3 more kids and continued my journey exploring new recipes and cooking. Now all of my kids love cooking and trying new foods. We cook regularly together and even my 5 year old makes dinner once a week (with help of course.)
4 files available upon enrollmentWeek 1: 3-4 pounds pork tenderloin apple cider vinegar dark brown sugar ketchup cayenne pepper salt & pepper 14 hamburger buns, split 1 small head green cabbage 2 large carrots mayonnaise granulated sugar celery seed white vinegar lemon juice Week 2: 1 medium onion 1 large red or green bell pepper 1 clove garlic vegetable oil 16 ounce can diced tomatoes 1 package frozen artichoke hearts dry white wine or chicken broth dried thyme salt & pepper saffron or turmeric 2 cups cooked rice frozen peas ½ pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined 3-ounce Albacore or Chunk Light Tuna Week 3: 1 pound lean ground turkey 1 cup fresh baby spinach 1 red onion crumbled feta cheese chopped dill dried oregano 2 cloves garlic cherry tomatoes red wine vinegar 1 tsp olive oil Salt and pepper Pita bread for serving plain non-fat Greek yogurt 1 cucumber 1 lemon Week 4: dry red wine soy sauce 2 cloves garlic 1 ½ - 2 pounds flank steak thawed frozen chopped spinach 7-ounce jar roasted red peppers crumbled blue cheese Salt and pepper 1 pound fresh green beans, stringed 1 Tbsp butter
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Please make sure your child is comfortable using the oven and stove top as well as a knife. If you or your child are uncomfortable with that, please be available to assist as needed.
