In this 4 week flex class, learners will follow 4 simple, g.f. recipes to make 4 treats (1 per week) to be shared during the fall season! (Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies, Granola Bars, Granola & Ice Cream of any flavor...Pumpkin anyone?)

Class Experience

Learners will learn how to follow a simple, 3 ingredient recipes while using simple kitchen tools to make quick and easy treats to share with friends and family.  They will feel confident in their cooking skills and pride in what they have created!  They will  independently make the choices for flavors to be used.  They will use critical thinking skills to develop ideas for how to change the recipe using different flavors or decorations depending on the occasion.  They will learn the importance of preparing ahead of time to create a recipe and the importance of cleaning up after themselves.   Learners/Parents will need a GMAIL address to access videos.  
Between classes each week, students will use use "Flipgrid" to film themselves with their finished products and report on the finished product and taste by answering the following questions:
* Did you enjoy the treats that you made?
* Did you share your treats with family and/or friends?  What types of comments did they have after tasting the treats?
* If you make these treats again, what will you do differently next time?  Will you use the same flavors?  Will you use more or less decorations?
* When would be a good time to make these treats again and why?

Learners/Parents will need a GMAIL address to access videos. SAMPLE OF INGREDIENTS/KITCHEN UTENSILS TO BE MADE ON DAY 1. ALL RECIPES WILL BE SENT VIA EMAIL UPON ENROLLING. 3 INGREDIENT GLUTEN FREE PUMPKIN CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES - REQUIRED INGREDIENTS: * 1 can of pumpkin * 1 box/bag gluten free yellow or vanilla cake mix. (I prefer Pamela's.) * chocolate chips (can be substituted with butterscotch, peanut butter, salted caramel, white chocolate or any other kind of "chips" or none at all!) OPTIONAL FLAVORS: * shredded coconut * cinnamon or all spice * any kind of chocolate, butterscotch, or salted caramel chips * dried fruit or raisins KITCHEN UTENSILS/APPLIANCES: * baking sheets (3) * Hand mixer (electric preferred) * aluminum foil * 2 long handled spoons * 2 large mixing bowls * 2 rubber spatulas * microwave * 2 oven mitts or pot holders * Measuring cups (1/3, 1/2, 1/4, & 1 cup) * Measuring spoons (TBSP & TSP...all sizes) * oven * Parchment paper (highly recommended, but not a "must have".) **GLUTEN FREE EATERS/LEARNERS: always triple check the packaging of any ingredients (with a trusted adult) that you plan to add in your recipe to ensure that they are gluten free or made in a facility that is gluten free friendly.**
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Learners will be using the microwave  - Parental Guidance may be necessary.
Learners will be using the oven for 1 recipe  - Parental Guidance may be necessary.
Learners will be cooking in the kitchen - so clean up after class will be required and strongly encouraged by the teacher.
