US Grade 5 - 7
In this 8 week online course, we will discuss each of the states found in the United States of America including location by region, capital city, nickname, weather, population, spelling, and fun facts including state flower, state bird, state insect, state motto, etc.. We will also cover general information about North America including its regions, neighboring countries, and its major landforms, mountains, and bodies of water (divided by east and west) No prior knowledge is required. Hand-outs will be emailed. Each handout with include the name of the state, an outline of the state, and space for completing the following: region, postal abbreviation, capital, nickname, state bird, state flower, and fun facts. A map of the United States and maps of the various regions will also be provided. Each class will begin with a short greeting time and then we will proceed directly to the topic. Learners may need extra time before or after class to complete their handouts. I have a relaxed teaching style and there will be opportunities for questions during the class. I can also be reached by email. Learners will benefit most if they read over any material that they can find about the topic to be discussed that day prior to the class time. Answers will also be provided so that learners can have a written record to help them remember important details about the United States. Class 1: General information about the United States, its borders, its regions, its relevant maps, and the District of Columbia (Washington, D.C. which is not a state) Class 2: Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island Class 3: Connecticut, Vermont, New York, and New Jersey Class 4: Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia Class 5: The Great Lakes, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois Class 6: Indiana, Ohio, Arizona, and New Mexico Class 7: Oklahoma, Texas, Kentucky, and Virginia Class 8: Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina Class 9: Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana Class 10: Florida, North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota Class 11: Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri Class 12: Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Nevada Class 13: Utah, Colorado, Washington, and Oregon Class 14: California, Alaska, and Hawaii Class 15: Major landforms, mountains, and bodies of water (divided by east and west) Class 16: Review of course material

Teacher expertise and credentials
My first college degree is in Secondary Education (grades 6-12) with four concentrations (including biology, Earth science, and life science). My state teaching certificate includes the above certifications along with Generalist (grades EC- grade 4) and Generalist (grades 4-8) which includes all subjects for grades Early Childhood through grade 8. I also homeschooled my two daughters from PreK to graduation in all topics including this one.
