Pop art is bright, creative, and loads of fun! In this class, we will watch a short, informational video and create our own art! Students will learn about the history of Pop Art and the major artists that contributed to its creation, such as Andy Warhol. We will also discuss the main characteristics of this art style, and how it was influenced by the cultural setting of America in the 1950's. Then students will learn basic color theory and how complimentary colors are used in Pop Art. They will get the chance to put their knowledge to work by creating their own Pop Art! Each student will need crayons, colored pencils, or markers. I will be attaching a worksheet to the classroom page that will need to be printed before class. This class is engaging, interactive, and so much fun! It is perfect for all students, including neurodivergent students. I strive to create a light-hearted atmosphere where each student can build their self-confidence and learn new skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
California Teaching Certificate in English to Speakers of Other Languages
I am a professional artist, specializing in oil portrait paintings, and I have had the privilege of displaying my artwork in venues across the country. I believe that art is about self expression and learning, and I hope to create a fun, interactive environment where students can develop a love for art while building their confidence in a new skill.
I have always struggled with expecting “perfection” of myself, especially in my art, so I am constantly reminding my students, as well as myself, that perfection is not required, and that practice, not unreasonable expectations, is what a advances our skills.
My joy in teaching comes from the comments of my students and their parents, expressing that they created something they didn’t know was possible.
