In this class, students will learn about climate change. We will discuss the differences between climate versus weather, the causes and the effects of climate change and how human activity causes greenhouse gases. Students will learn about the climate system and how the water, air, land, plants, animals and energy from the Sun all have an impact on each other. I will use Nearpod slides to present the information via text, images and video in a lecture format that is also interactive. Students will participate in the lesson by following along with the slides, by referring to and completing hand-outs (if applicable), through discussion, and activities through Nearpod. Please be prepared to use active listening skills and ask questions when appropriate!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome and thanks for stopping by! My name is Brittany and I live in South Florida. I'm a native Floridian and have lived here most of my life. In my free time, you can find me outside. I enjoy hiking local trails and relaxing at the beach.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a major in Elementary Education as well as an ESOL endorsement. I taught at some capacity for almost a decade. I was a K-5 substitute teacher in college before becoming a certified K-6 public school teacher. I have experience teaching grades K-3 in both South Florida and Western North Carolina. I also have experience teaching in a Dual Language program. I'm excited for the opportunity to reach students worldwide through teaching online and to offer content that I'm passionate to learn about and teach.
My philosophy as a teacher includes providing a safe and comfortable space for growing lifelong learners. Understanding the learning style of individual students and implementing lessons with clear objectives allows me to teach with clarity and focus. I encourage learning through interactivity, real-world purpose, discussion and reflection. I believe in nurturing my student's interests and allow them to take control of their own learning experience through self-discovery and independence.
My areas of expertise include remedial reading intervention, language arts, and phonics. I'm passionate about teaching environmental science classes on topics such as climate change, conservation and sustainability as well as classes on mindfulness and social-emotional skills.
