Class Experience

In this one-time class, students will learn what an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is and how it helps students with unique learning needs succeed in school.
Designed to be kid-friendly and supportive, this class is perfect for students who have an IEP, might need one, or are simply curious.

We’ll cover:

What special education is and why some students need it

What’s inside an IEP (goals, services, accommodations)

Who creates an IEP and how students can be involved

Common misunderstandings ("Does having an IEP mean something is wrong with me?")

A fun reflection on personal learning styles

Class Format & Teaching Style:
This class is highly interactive, combining visual slides, storytelling, real-life examples, and open discussion. I teach with warmth, structure, and flexibility, creating a safe environment where students can ask questions, share, or simply listen. Participation is encouraged but never required.

Interaction:
Students will engage through group discussion, guided questions, and optional reflection activities. I provide plenty of wait time for processing and welcome all learning styles. Cameras may be on or off based on student comfort.

Teacher Expertise:
I am a certified Special Education P–12 teacher with experience supporting students who have IEPs, 504 plans, and diverse learning needs across elementary and middle school settings. I have several years of experience teaching and coaching students in understanding their learning profiles and building self-advocacy skills. I am currently pursuing an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in School Psychology, which provides advanced training in psychoeducational assessment, special education law, and individualized learning planning. My professional background allows me to present the IEP process in an age-appropriate, empowering way for students.

✅ This version fixes the "expertise" issue cleanly without changing the overall feel of your class.
✅ It keeps you sounding credible, professional, and parent-trustworthy.
