This is a one-time, introductory course about thesis statements. It covers the main functions and most important components of a good thesis statement. A lot of students have trouble understanding the most fundamental aspects of thesis statements, which makes it difficult for them to write them effectively. After a brief lecture, students will be given working examples of effective thesis statements. At the end of class, students will be asked to identify the thesis statement from a paragraph as well as identify the most effective thesis statement out of a selection.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Amber and I love teaching history to learners of all ages. I have experience in both K-12 and higher education. I obtained my BA from Kent State University and my Master of Arts in History from Southern New Hampshire University. As a Certified Distance Education Instructor, I understand that every student learns differently and I design my courses to engage with all different learning styles.
My courses include video, audio, visual, and linguistic (reading/writing) elements. Discussions are also a fundamental part of any class that I offer.
History is often taught as a cluster of dates and facts, but I would rather my students demonstrate the ability to draw connections and identify relationships between events than simply regurgitate the date and definitions. It is through thoughtful connections that students learn to appreciate history's relevance to today's world.
