In this one time course, students will learn about the basic components of a story and study a plot diagram.

Beginner Level
I love stories, and I love sharing what I know about stories! in this class students will be learning about the elements of a story including setting, characters, conflict, climax, ect. They will learn how authors use setting, character, and conflict to make the story interesting. Students will listen to a lecture about story elements where they will be able to ask and answer questions, the will then relate the plot diagram to their favorite movies or books and identifying the elements of a story within their own favorite stories to share with the class. Students will then have opportunities to read short stories and identify the elements of a story in those.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to identify character, setting, inciting incident, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution in their favorite movie or book.
Students will be able to identify story elements in text read aloud and back up their thinking with evidence from the story.

Parental Guidance
Stories students discuss should be PG rated at the highest. Teacher reserves the right to request a student choose a new story to discuss.

Some familiarity with stories, interest in learning about plots.
