Class Experience

Do you ever read a book and need to talk to someone about it.? That's where this book club comes in. Each week students will have the chance to share about the (age appropriate) book that they are reading. The students will discuss the title and author along with a summary of the story. We will discuss characters, plot, theme, point of view, descriptors, and anything else that might pertain to the story. We will also gain new book recommendations. Each week, I will discuss a middle grade book I am reading and possibly introduce a new author. Guest authors might pop in to talk with the book club during special events. This Book Club can be joined at any time. Each class discussion stands on its own. I'm looking forward to discussing books with you!

Learning Goals

Students will enhance social and summarization skills by talking with peers and a teacher about books they are reading and giving recommendations to each other in an adult-lead, student-driven environment.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello,

My name is Kelly Martin (Mrs. Kelly). I have been a teacher for the last 20 years. For the last fifteen, I've taught preschool for children with special needs and typical peers. I am also a published author. I have forty books in the world both traditionally and independently published. I've written middle grade books all the way to adult.

My philosophy has always been every child can learn. How they learn might look differently, and that's okay. What's important is every child can learn and grow in this world.

I have three cats (Sam, Seth, and Montgomery), one grandcat (Damian), three daughters, and one husband. My favorite color is dark purple. I only recently started drinking coffee.
