Description
Class Experience
Students will learn about the sound of short 'U', and read, spell, and write words that have the short 'U' sound. Students will learn phonics and strengthen their reading, spelling, and writing skills using the Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory approach.
I'm a licensed elementary classroom teacher. I spent most of my years as a homeroom teacher in 1st and 2nd grade. I have a master's degree in literacy with a focus on grades K-5. I'm a certified Orton-Gillingham instructor and have worked as a reading tutor for students in grades K-3.
There is no homework. But, students will be sent 2 resources after the class. 1. a copy of the short 'U' page in step 4. 2. the reading activity page in step 7. Students should keep their writing practice paper from steps 5 and 6. It is highly recommended that students save the short 'U' page, reading activity page, and their writing practice paper in a folder or notebook. Students are encouraged to improve their skills by rereading the pages and practicing their spelling, both outloud and by writing the words. Repeated practice is important to reinforce the letters, sounds, and reading, spelling, and writing learned in class.
* A sheet of writing paper, lined or unlined, pencil or pen. No eraser is needed, mistakes will be marked through. * The short 'U' page and reading activity page studied in class will be emailed to the classroom after class. Please provide your child with a folder or notebook to save their papers so they can study them.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Progress will be observed through participation and written work.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
