In this semester course, students will learn to write a research paper. Writing a research paper is an important skill for any student, and your student will use these skills through college. We will discuss the correct structure, outlines, style, and revising/editing. Classes will include a combination of lecture and collaboration. Student collaboration is a great addition to any class. Students are free to share and use ideas from each other. Each student gains the ability to use experiences and knowledge from others as we write together. Throughout the course, we will walk systematically through the steps necessary to write a well-organized and thoughtful research paper. Important Notes: -I will provide all handouts necessary. -Students will choose their topics. You can have them choose a topic that they are learning about in history or science class. -Students will be required to find research sources (both print and online) pertaining to their unique topic. Be prepared for a possible visit to the library. -Students will have a completed 5 paragraph research paper by the end of class. -I will give feedback and a grade on each step of the process and the final paper. Class Schedule by Week: Week 1. Introduce and practice key word outlines Week 2. Introduce and practice dress-ups (words and phrases to make writing more engaging) Week 3. Choose the subject of the paper (history or science), begin finding sources Weeks 4-5. Practice source key words outlines, bibliography Week 6.
