What are tornadoes? How are they formed? Join teacher Jenna to learn all about the severe weather tornadoes bring and engage in a fun tornado in a jar experiment that shows how tornadoes spin! In this class students will: -Engage in a mini lesson about tornadoes through a fun presentation and short video clips. Students will also have an opportunity to share with the class what they know about tornadoes as well. We will also talk about tornado safety! -Complete a science experiment making a tornado in a jar. (We will make it two different ways!) See the supply list below for what is needed for the tornado in a jar experiment!
Learning Goals
Students will learn how tornadoes are formed and how they are very dangerous.

Supply List
- 1 plastic jar or mason jar with a lid and filled with water but not all the way to the top leaving about 1/4 unfilled. I recommend an empty peanut butter jar cleaned out if possible! A mason jar works great too but could be a little difficult for some learners to shake or could break if falling on the floor. This is up to you what you prefer to use. Part one: making the funnel - dish soap (everyones container may be slightly different in size, I will tell each student how much soap to add in class) - teaspoon of vinegar Part two: adding dark rain clouds and debris - blue food coloring - just a little glitter
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
