US Grade 6 - 9
In this 8-week course, I will be introducing these students to basic medical terminology as well as common medical tests like X-rays, CT scans, MRIs and other procedures like getting an IV (intravenous) catheter. I am a Certified Child Life Specialist and have experience working in the hospital setting with children. Part of the role of a child life specialist is to help children understand medical procedures and tests by using developmentally appropriate language. I plan to help teach the students about these terms and procedures as a way to make them feel empowered to understand when in a medical setting but not about things that could be too scary to them. I will use google slides presentations, short videos, and class discussion to teach these concepts. I am an interactive teacher and like to involve the students by asking questions.
Learning Goals
Students will finish class with a better understanding of basic medical terminology.
