This class is a fun and challenging intro to probability. We start with the basics by learning probability vocabulary and notation and then move into progressively more challenging problems. Learners will complete their own probability project and present it to the class on the final day. Topics covered are: Day 1: Basic probability of events with equally likely outcomes; Sample Space; Complimentary Rule Day 2: Experimental vs Theoretical Probability; Making Predictions with Probability Day 3: Compound Events Day 1: Independent Events; Tree Diagrams, Tables; Multiplication Rule Day 4: Compound Events Day 2: Dependent Events Day 5: Simulations Day 1 Day 6: Simulations Day 2 Day 7: Two-Way Tables and Venn Diagrams Day 8: Project Presentations & Review Games Class is an interactive lecture. I will explain topics, show examples, answer questions, and frequently ask each learner specific questions to check for understanding. If your learner is shy or has any other reason he/she would be uncomfortable being asked to answer questions and present a project publicly in class, please let me know so I can appropriately accommodate. To get the most out of this class, learners should be comfortable with the concept of fractions, percents, and multiplying with fractions. I set the age recommendation at 12-14 but learners in the 10-11 age range with strong math skills can also be successful in the class.
