What Are Sensory Differences?

A brief intro to sensory processing differences, what that means, what our many senses do for us (there's more than five), a bit about how our senses work, and tips to explain sensory differences to others.

Class experience

This class is taught in English.
This class is intended to destigmatize the idea of having different sensory experiences than what is typically considered "normal."
My own exploration into the world of sensory differences started as a personal journey, which expanded over the course of years into working professionally as a sensory and social coach for teenagers and adults on the autism spectrum and others with sensory differences.

I have found repeatedly that one of the hidden barriers to success for many people is unrecognized sensory needs, which is why I've spent years helping my clients and students figure out their own sensory profiles, and use that information to make their lives better.

I have sensory processing differences myself and am on the autism spectrum. It is my lived experience with these different ways of being in the world that led me to learning more about them and helping others. Prior to coaching professionally, I taught middle and high school, and remain a certified teacher.
This is not intended as therapy, medical intervention, or diagnosis of any sort. It is a recognition that each of us have a different and unique sensory experience of the world, which is valid and good, and that understanding how humans experience the world is a useful part of life for everyone.
