"What an Adventure!" Introduction to Adventure Course

In this One- Time Class, learners will be introduced to the topic of "adventure" through reading, discussion, visual aids and more! We will review a PowerPoint Presentation as well as some short video clips on various kinds of adventure!

In this course, we will be discussing the meaning of "Adventure." 
We will be reading "What an Adventure" by Jessica Quilty. Reading will be adapted to meet the needs of the learner (independent reading, popcorn reading, guided etc.) 
Reading material will be provided on a PowerPoint presentation. Video clips will be short clips related to the topic of discussion (National Geographic).
We will be learning the vocabulary words "adventure, climbed, clubhouses, exploring, greatest, truest, and wondered." 
We will begin by creating a "K-W-L" chart on our current knowledge on adventure. Students will be encouraged to share their knowledge and questions they may have.
We will be discussing various kinds of adventures including "hiking, camping, canoeing, sailing, white water rafting, fishing, and exploration." 
Students will be shown various images and video clips to aid in the learning process.
After class, students are provided with "Reading Response Questions" that they can work on at home. 
Students are also provided (2) "Adventure Booklet" templates. Students may write, color and create their own Adventure Booklets. The (2) templates provided are a PDF document that can be downloaded for use. There are multiple sheets for students to be creative in any way they choose. An "Adventure Course" Coloring Certificate will also be awarded.

Students will improve their understanding of adventure and be able to identify various kinds of adventure. Students will develop reading, fluency, conversational and speaking skills. Students will also creatively think and plan their own adventure.

Parental Guidance
There is no parental guidance required for this lesson. Students will be shown images and brief video clips that are appropriate to the age range and learning content. This material is approved by School District Standards.
Supply List
A PowerPoint Presentation with the reading material (book) will be provided during class. 
No other material will be needed during class. Students may bring pencil/paper if they would like to keep notes.
After class, a PDF containing the "Adventure Booklet" and Certificate will be sent.
A copy of the PowerPoint with reading material (book) can also be provided for further review.

I have experience teaching in-depth reading strategies as well as vocabulary development. This book is specifically relevant to the Core Curriculum that is followed in School District Classrooms. Students will be developing fluency, vocabulary and reading comprehension. I am passionate about adventure and hope to inspire my students to be as well!
