We will be reading "What an Adventure" by Jessica Quilty. Reading will be adapted to meet the needs of the learner (independent reading, popcorn reading, guided etc.) Reading material will be provided on a PowerPoint presentation. Students will improve their understanding of adventure and be able to identify various kinds of adventure. Students will develop reading, fluency, conversational and speaking skills. Students will also creatively think and plan their own adventure.
As an Elementary Teacher/ Special Education Teacher, I have years of experience teaching Reading and English Courses. I have experience teaching in-depth reading strategies as well as vocabulary development. This book is specifically relevant to the Core Curriculum that is followed in School District Classrooms. Students will be developing fluency, vocabulary and reading comprehension. I am passionate about adventure and hope to inspire my students to be as well!
Optional: Provided with this course are "Reading Response Questions" that students may complete at home. An "Adventure Booklet" is also provided for students to complete at home. These are optional projects and not required.
1 file available upon enrollmentA PowerPoint Presentation with the reading material (book) will be provided during class. No other material will be needed during class. Students may bring pencil/paper if they would like to keep notes. After class, a PDF containing the "Adventure Booklet" and Certificate will be sent. A copy of the PowerPoint with reading material (book) can also be provided for further review.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students are assessed through their verbal input on the topic. An informal assessment is completed. Students completion of the "Reading Response Questions" and "Adventure Booklet" are informal assessments that can be completed at home.
35 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
There is no parental guidance required for this lesson. Students will be shown images and brief video clips that are appropriate to the age range and learning content. This material is approved by School District Standards.
