Each class will start with a ten minute lecture and then break into discussion. The first class will start with the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 and cover the Lewis & Clark expedition in 1805, The War of 1812, The Monroe doctrine 1823. The second class will cover the Indian Removal Act 1830 and the Oregon Trail. Class three will cover The Battle of Alamo 1836, Manifest Destiny 1845, the Mexican American War and the California Gold Rush. The final class will look at the Oregon Territory...
Students will learn to analyze primary source documents and be able to discuss their own perceptions of the material within the class.
I have taught U.S. History to secondary students for 8 years. I hold a BA and a MA in History with numerous classes in Native American history.
Longer primary source documents (1-2 pages) will be assigned for outside of class. These readings will not take longer than 1/2 hour to read.
Informal assessment based on class participation.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
