This one time highly participatory and engaging class will use music, fun language, problem solving, creative props and unique musical instruments to explore the Pumpkin Life Cycle. We will learn echoing and call and response strategies to help us internalize vocabulary and concepts. Hand motions, movement and creative dramatizations will bring the sequence of events to life. We will brainstorm descriptive words to increase our understanding and encourage discussion and collaboration. Students will sing along with Ukulele, Harmonica, Bucket Bass and meet the Dancing Wooden Man, Pumpkin Jack!
Learning Goals
Through active participation and repetition: learners will become familiar with the 5 stages of the Pumpkin Life Cycle, sing the Pumpkin Life Cycle Song and learn hand motions that demonstrate the Pumpkin Life Cycle. We will explore descriptive language to further communicate their understanding. Students will become familiar with the ukulele, harmonica, bucket bass and Limberjack.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Mr. Beach! I've had a rewarding career as a visiting artist and musician getting to walk into classrooms and being greeted by faces full of curiosity and creativity. I've shared my enthusiasm and love of music, words, history and science, to help learners engage in problem solving and the creative process. My sense of humor has helped me to quickly set up accessible and engaging learning environments with easily understood expectations.
But ... no more past tense! Now I can do those same things, with your learners, and best of all ... everyone will have a front row seat! My philosophy is that learning should be fun! With younger kids you keep things moving, choose your words and directions wisely, be hands on, get up and move, be a little silly sometimes and expect quite a few repetitions before learners internalize a concept! But I've found that works for all ages! It's just an effective engaging way to learn! All ages of learners want to be excited and engaged, solve problems, have hands on learning , get up, move around , share ideas, collaborate, and apply their new knowledge in their own way.
You need a solid foundation to support a creative leap! My approach is structured creativity!
If my style clicks with your learner, there will be opportunities to explore themes related to science, social studies, language, literacy and music. Whatever the specific topic, there will be engaging interdisciplinary connections through, music, art, movement, problem solving and creative expression.
I have experience with Early Childhood/ Pre-School learners. I've mentored Early Childhood Educators on how to include music, movement and creative dramatizations into their daily routines. I've worked extensively with grades K-5, plus enjoyable experiences with middle school and high school age learners. A short list of other experience includes being a
4-H Camp Mountain Heritage Coordinator, presenting Healing Arts Programs for Mental Health organizations and concerts for Library Summer Reading Programs. My current Certifications include Mental Health First Aid, Angler Education Instructor, Outdoor Education/Project Learning Tree: Wild, Wet, Aquatic and Early Childhood. I am A Certified Teaching Artist for the South Carolina Arts Commission. I have a B.A. in Geology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Thanks for your time, I hope to see your learner on-line!
