Each week students will be engaged in a different introductory preschool - reading, writing, science and math skills relevant to the theme of the month! Difficulty will continue to build as the weeks progress into the school year following curriculum based pattern however, each morning meeting will focus on different skills independent of each other. Specific skills include but are not limited to colours, shapes, numbers, letter recognition, letter sounds, calendar, and much more! Students...
Students will work towards gaining confidence, understanding and efficiency in preschool skills. Each week will focus on different, grade appropriate skills as students work improving their abilities in topics such as being able to count to 10, number sequencing, letter sounds, letter recognition and many more. As the topic addressed will change each week, the learning goal for each week will vary slightly based on the specific topic however, in general the learning goals of each class include gaining confidence and understanding in kindergarten skills.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology, honors specialization in fitness and exercise prescription. Additionally, I have had significant experience teaching preschool and elementary math to children as a traditional and non-traditional educator, both in group and private tutoring settings.
Students will not be assigned homework due to the nature of the ongoing class structure however, students will be encouraged to review material taught and continue to play the associated games to further build their skills and understanding outside of class time.
Students will require a pencil and coloured pencils, crayons or markers for each session. Handouts will be posted the Sunday prior to class in the classroom to be printed and brought to class. Each week a message will be posted in classroom with a reminder about the handout(s) for the week as well as if any additional materials are needed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed on an ongoing basis throughout each individual class. In doing so this will enable me to evaluate the level each learner is at and be able to alter lessons as we go in order to ensure each child has the appropriate level of understanding in addition to getting the most out of each class. Informal evaluation will occur through asking questions and prompting students to respond. Student responses in games as well as through checks for understanding throughout each class will also make of components of informal assessments.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
