Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 10
Beginner - Advanced Level
Hello, and thank you for your interest in Welcome to Hogwarts! A Celebration of Harry Potter Books self-paced class (no live Zoom meetings)! My name is Kristi Robertson and I will lead learners into the wizarding world of Harry Potter in this 8-week or on-demand asynchronous class as we work through all kinds of fun activities all about author JK Rowling's Harry Potter series!

This class is NOT a reading club. It's for those of us who have already read the Harry Potter books, or watched the films, or both, and are already huge fans!

Here is what we will be doing in class:

For each year in Hogwarts (Years 1 - 7) learners will have the following:

🪄 A recap of the Harry Potter book that corresponds to the Hogwarts year
🪄 Around 5 - 7 different fun activities (see the list below for details about activities)
🪄 3 insightful discussion questions about each book
🪄 A fun quiz to see how well you know each of the Harry Potter books

There are too many activities to list here (referenced in magic wand bullet #2 in the above list), but they mostly consist of fun quizzes, trivia games, and worksheets that include word puzzles, code breakers, word searches, "create your own....(potion, magical sweet, sock for Dobby, etc.)". I've listed some of the fun activities here:

🔮 Witch and Wizard registration
🔮 Sorting Ceremony
🔮 Decorate your Hogwarts house crest
🔮 Professor Sprout's greenhouse scramble
🔮 Ghost stories
🔮 Design a sock for Dobby
🔮 Find your patronus
🔮 Marauders Map maze
🔮 My Magizoologist Profile
🔮 Determine your type of wand in Ollivander's art of wand making
🔮 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire trivia game
🔮 Invent a wizarding sport
🔮 Hogwarts uniform tie bookmarks
🔮 Ministry of Magic code breaker
🔮 How to draw Hogwarts
🔮 Escape the Room of Requirement
🔮 Invent your own potion
🔮 Who have I transformed into? (a Polyjuice potion puzzle)
🔮 Things that must not be named game
🔮 and MUCH more!

"I solemnly swear that your learner will have fun in this class!"

Parental Guidance
Three activities covered in Week 2/Year 1 require a login/password to www.harrypotter.com (previously www.wizardingworld.com). This is a free account, but these activities are not required. The activities are: 🪄 Witch and Wizard Registration 🪄 Sorting Ceremony 🪄 Wand Ceremony In 🪄 Witch and Wizard Registration, students can sign up with a free login/password at www.harrypotter.com and create a cartoon/avatar portrait. In 🪄 Sorting Ceremony, students who have registered at www.harrypotter.com can take a short quiz to find out which Hogwarts House they are in. In 🪄 Wand Ceremony, students who have registered at www.harrypotter.com can take a short quiz to find out which wand has chosen them. One activity in Week 8/Year 7 requires student to click on a link to access a Google Form. The activity title is "Things That Must Not Be Named". Students will be given a word (e.g. "wand") and be asked to describe the thing without using certain words (e.g., can't use "magic, stick, Ollivander"). Two activities in Week 5/Year 4 (Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire Trivia) and Week 8/Year 7 (Who Have I Transformed Into?) require students to click on a link to www.triviamaker.com to play trivia games that I have created. This is a free account and does not require a login/password. It only requires the student to clink on the link to access the trivia game.
