Class Experience
***Note*** Acid Rain is the last lesson in this series. After that the lessons will repeat and the learner is welcome to stay and continue to repeat the lessons or to withdraw. If all learners decide to withdraw that section will end. ***NOTE*** All activities are optional in this course and do not hinder the lessons if your learner chooses not to participate in them. Some learners have chosen to only participate in the class as a discussion and that has worked fine. Therefore, all supplies...
Learners will improve their knowledge of various strange and wacky weather phenomena. Learners will improve their science vocabulary. Learners will improve their knowledge of how to conduct simple experiments.
***NOTE*** All activities in the class are optional and the class can be a discussion only if your learner prefers. Therefore, all supplies are optional. Volcanic Tornadoes: Paper Crayons, markers, or colored pencils Blood Rain: Vegetable oil Red food coloring Water Clear container (mason jar works best) Fork (to mix the food coloring and oil together) Bowl (to mix the food coloring and oil together) Morning Glory Clouds: Blue construction paper Cotton balls Glue Massive Hailstones: Note: Gather as many of these objects as possible. If you can’t find all of them, that is okay. Frozen pea (or something similar in size) Golf ball Baseball Softball Grapefruit Ping pong ball Penny Small marble (or dime) Quarter Tennis ball Frost Flowers: Black or dark blue construction paper White crayons or colored pencils Thundersnow: Paper Crayons, markers, or colored pencils Northern Lights: Paper Crayons, markers, or colored pencils Blood Moon: Paper Marker Scissors Something round to trace the moon shape Foil Measuring cup (to form the foil stamp) Red paint Gray paint Acid Rain: Six strips of masking tape to be used as labels A pen or marker to label Three 1-quart jars with lids A bottle of vinegar or lemon juice Tap water Measuring cups 3 small potted plants you are willing to use for this experiment
