Did you know that in Switzerland you cannot flush the toilet after 10 pm? You can't hike naked in Switzerland either. Where did these somewhat wacky laws come from? The Elderly Rights Law in China requires grown children to visit their parents. Personally I like that one :)! How about this one - a man carrying onions must have the right of way walking down the street in France. What about those of us carrying a bag of skunks? Can we have the right of way too? Anyway, you get the idea! This class, like my other classes, is discussion and opinion heavy. I will give you a lot of information and let's see what we think about it.
Learning Goals
Students will again get to know this planet through an unusual entrance - weird laws around the world. As a result we will discuss nature, politics, culture and all the things that make human life complicated and sometimes super bizarre.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have travelled and lived around the world. I was born in Poland, grew up in Sweden and then ended up in NYC and finally the Bay Area. Finally for now :). I was a documentary filmmaker for many years and then ended up in law school for environmental and animal law. I am fascinated by the choices people make when we make our world - outdated or unusual laws gives us an interesting glimpse of human nature.
