Class Experience

We will be learning about some very weird but amazing animals that live in our world! The classes within this five day course will consist of a slide show with guided reading passages that students will be given the opportunity to read (not required!). During our 45 minute lessons each day we will also look at information, vivid images and a few short video clips to help reinforce learning. Students will understand information relating to the habitat, diet, characteristics and life cycle of each animal presented. My classes are fun and interactive, with lots of opportunity for discussion, sharing of thoughts and ideas, and conversation related to the topics covered. Students will be asked guided questions throughout the lessons to ensure that they are grasping the information and are able to talk about what we have learned with accuracy. Students will create an animal journal over the course of 5 days with information learned. We will complete an animal information page (provided)as well as do a sketch/drawing of each animal. No background information or knowledge is required!

Learning Goals

The students will learn information on 5 different animals: Maned Wolf, Axolotl, Aye Aye, Harpy Eagle, and the Proboscis Monkey. They will be able to interact with peers and discuss information on each animal. They will learn about what each animal eats, where it lives, characteristics that set it apart, and some weird but true facts. They will be able to complete a journal page for each animal and participate in a short drawing activity.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Ms. Danielle! I am from a beach town in North Carolina. I have been teaching for the last 18 years. I have taught preschool up through 8th grade. I am licensed K-8th grade in several states including Texas, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. I LOVE the energy and enthusiasm that students bring to the classroom. I very much enjoy teaching about science, specifically animal related sciences. I grew up on a dairy farm, so I love to teach from my experiences on the farm. I have 4 children, all of whom are animal obsessed. We have 3 dogs, 5 bearded dragons, 4 leopard geckos, two chameleons, and 3 fish tanks. We also breed and sell ball pythons, so we also have lots of snakes! My house is kind of a zoo! I believe that teaching should be interactive, fun and exciting for both the teacher and students. I love to share my personal experiences in class as well as hear from students on their own interests and experiences. For that reason, many of my lessons are centered around reptiles, which is a subject I have lots of experience in. Bearded dragons are my favorite reptile, and I love sharing what I have learned in owning them, as well as extensively studying them. I also love teaching about animals from the ocean, the Arctic regions, the Rain forest, as well as the African Plain. I have studied animal habitats in depth and love to share my passion for animals with students! I look forward to meeting you in any of my classes that may be interesting to you!
