US Grade 3 - 5
In this ongoing course, students will have a chance to both learn and practice the basics of essay writing. The first 20-25 minutes of each class will be set aside for our lesson of the day and time to work together as a group. The last 10-15 minutes of class will be set aside for students to work on their essay writing skills, while asking for guidance as needed. While students write, I will check in with them to see how they are doing and where assistance may be needed. Our topics for each week are as follows: Week 1/Week of June 12th - The lesson will focus on how to effectively brainstorm before writing an essay. The lesson will also discuss why brainstorming is an imperative part of essay writing. Week 2/Week of June 19th - The lesson will focus on how to write an effective introduction to an essay. We will discuss how to create an attention grabbing start, introduce the reader to your details, and write an effective main idea statement. Week 3/Week of June 26th - The lesson will focus on an overview of how to write effective body paragraphs. We will discuss the structure of body paragraphs (introduction, organized and descriptive details, and a conclusion). Week 4/Week of July 3rd - The lesson will further discuss how to write effective body paragraphs. We will focus more specifically on how to organize body paragraphs (clear introduction, transition words, and a focused conclusion). Week 5/Week of July 10th - The lesson will further discuss how to write effective body paragraphs. We will focus more specifically on how to write descriptive details. Week 6/Week of July 17th - The lesson will focus on how to write an effective conclusion to an essay. We will discuss how to recap your thesis, remind the reader of your details, and write a memorable ending. Week 7/Week of July 24th - The lesson will focus on editing your content. Week 8/Week of July 31st - The lesson will focus on editing and checking for common grammar mistakes.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been working with children of all ages for the past 15 years, and I absolutely love motivating children to learn and find the joy in learning.
My undergraduate degree was in Developmental Psychology, and I have taught high school students for many years. I have been teaching on Outschool for over two years and love every minute of it! I am currently a work at home mom of five young boys, so I am comfortable working with all age groups.
I look forward to working with your learner!
