1 hour per week. Complete writing assignments discussed in class.Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 2
Writer's Notebook is a combination of creativity with small bursts of writing. Pre-made pages offered but optional to help resistant writers. Each class we will create 5-7 pages depending on skill level, interest and completion from learners. Ms. Wendy will model how to create artwork or visual representation that will go with a piece of narrative writing. Example: Draw a suitcase (or use pre-made pages) & write about a part of the trip in each compartment. I will demonstrate how to combine personal creativity with writing to have a unique platform to express themselves. Other pages: Worry jars, comics, word lists, jokes, and more! We will discuss together the writing process and encourage drawing, doodling, cartoons, pictures, text bubbles, collage, or other types of creativity. Each page will tackle a different skill or process and be modeled by teacher. Possible topics: Brainstorming, finishing sentences, round-robin writing, how to's, creating characters, making lists, writing off literature, different points of view, retelling a fairy tale, and many more. I'll use engaging strategies to get students to write, share, and create in their Writers Notebook. This type of journaling/notebook is proven to develop students writing skills in a non-threatening environment. Come join in on the fun!
Learning Goals
Students will focus on the enjoyment of writing through non traditional exercises.
Students will develop writing skills in their writers notebooks.

Parent reviews: Miss Wendy is a great teacher, she ensures everyone's participation and keeps class very engaged.
My 9-year-old daughter said the teacher taught the class a lot of new writing techniques, ways to make up a short story, and that it's okay to write short snippets in your own personal journal - it doesn't always have to be full paragraphs. She said the teacher was very nice.
My daughter enjoyed this class so much that we're registering for the next class by Wendy right after this class!
My daughter loved this class. We actually signed her up for the intermediate class starting tomorrow. She really liked the teacher and how she interacted.
Great class for the reluctant writer! I plan to sign up for the next classes in the series.
This kept my 7 and 9 year old fully engaged and they had fun! Wendy was able to keep them busy, class engaged and all together in the project. My kids both URG when I have them do their writing so this was a great way to show them that writing can be fun and doesn't have to be a certain way or perfect. It was so inspiring that I think I will have them show me how create my own journal. Loved this and hope to join in future classes. Looking forward to seeing how my kids use their journals and if it inspires them to continue and love to write. Especially, since one of my kids has expressed in interest in writing his own book someday since he LOVES LOVES LOVES to read!!!
