Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 5
Students will get plenty of practice working on word problems in this weekly class. Each week, we'll look at a different type of word problem. Students will be able to work independently or together. This is a great class for students who might suffer from math anxiety. There are no grades, and mistakes are welcomed! Making mistakes is how we learn.

Below is a sample of the types of problems we'll see in class. Students are encouraged to make suggestions if they have a type they struggle with or enjoy solving.
Week 1: Simple word problems, go over tips/tricks
Week 2: money word problems
Week 3: word problems with fractions
Week 4: geometry word problems

Students should be prepared to work problems out. This means they will need scratch paper and maybe a calculator. Students aren't required to participate but highly encouraged. They should at least be comfortable submitting their answers/questions via the chat function.

Hello!

UPDATE: I am taking a break from Outschool. After the spring semester of 2024 ends, I will take a hiatus.

I offer a variety of science and math classes. I have close to ten years of teaching experience. I've worked with students of all ages including young adults. I experience teaching in the classroom and teaching virtually. I have a B.A. from Louisiana State University.

I've helped tutoring student reach their goals whether it's to pass a standardized test or get a passing grade in a course.

I think that a basic understanding of science enhances one's life. It opens up a world hidden to most people. Studying science and math helps children to develop critical thinking skills that can be applied to all areas of life. My goal in all my classes is to inspire the students to study science. I want them to always ask questions and to stay curious.

Please reach out to me if you don't see a time that works for your child. I will try to be accommodating if it is possible.

When I am not teaching or prepping for classes, I enjoy crafting, reading, working out, and spending time with my dog.

"If you are scientifically literate the world looks very different to you. And that understanding empowers you." -Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson
