Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Come learn how to read word families! This class is perfect for learners who can identify all or most of the alphabet letters and can match the sound to each letter. Each week, we will learn 1-2 simple sight words to build simple sentences with our sight word family. Learners will enjoy blending sounds and using mystery pictures to learn a new consonant- vowel- consonant (CVC) word family each week. Finally, we will create doodles to review the word family of the week.

I model each activity, and the students work together to participate. There will also be opportunities for each child to have the "spotlight" and have their own individual turns (with as much guidance and support as needed.)

Here is what we do during our fun class:
1. Introduce the sight words we will use in the lesson, and practice a few sentences with picture prompts.
2. Introduce word family of the week and enjoy a funny poem or story with our word family.
3. Build and sound out words together using mystery pictures to find the missing letter. Everyone gets a turn!
4. Doodle Time: Draw doodles of some of our favorite words from the lesson.
5. Review: Read sight word sentences (with support) using our word family words.
6. Sharing: Everyone would like to share their doodles and favorite word will be spotlighted, followed by goodbyes.

We rotate through a list of 20 word families. Sight words may repeat several times through these 20 word family lessons. Here's what's coming up next on the schedule:

I am so excited for the opportunity to bring creative, energetic and meaningful lessons to the learners on Outschool. I am a certified school teacher, and I have classroom experience in both public and private schools. Currently, I work exclusively teaching online while homeschooling my own children. As a homeschooling family, we love to spend time together traveling when possible, and enjoying the great outdoors at our country home with our animals.

The classes I offer are full of fun activities that engage the students while they are learning. I love teaching with a theme that captivates the interests of learners. All of the classes that I offer are designed for learners in the 3-7 years old age range. My specialties include circle time, playdough playtime, alphabet mini classes and beginning level language arts.

It is my goal to give every student time to shine in all of my classes. Everyone has the opportunity to contribute to the lesson. This helps build important social skills, make friends and also feel important, valued and special. I look forward to seeing you soon in one of my very fun, interactive child-friendly classes soon!
