Stage fright and performance anxiety are so common among musicians and artists. The best way to overcome our fears is to practice performing! Our Weekly Violin Club Performance Class is designed to facilitate just that. Whether your child is preparing for an upcoming recital, competition, or audition and wants constructive feedback on their piece, or if they just want to do a run-through of what they've been practicing before their next lesson, this is the club for them! Don't worry - their piece does not have to be perfect and it does not have to be memorized. In fact, if they don't want to perform at all they are welcome to simply enroll and practice their inquisitive listening and feedback skills as an active audience member. The class will serve as a fun and friendly environment for students to get more comfortable performing and sharing ideas with their peers. They may even bring the same piece to multiple classes if they would like! I am a professional violinist in the Sarasota Orchestra and have experience performing in a wide range of different circumstances. From playing concertos as the soloist with an orchestra, to solo recitals, to chamber music quartet concerts, to being concertmaster of the orchestra - I've been there and done it all. I got to where I am by looking for any opportunity to perform and get comfortable playing for others. It's so important to not just do all of our work in the practice room, but to also practice performing and have fun! The class size is kept small so that each student will have a chance to perform a piece of their choice. I will provide constructive feedback for each student, but I will also encourage and facilitate peer-to-peer discussion. Students will have the opportunity to provide respectful, encouraging feedback to the other performers. It's so important as musicians to listen to other people our own age play and to practice intentional listening by being able to discuss our observations. Due to the discussion-based nature of this class, there must be at least 2-3 learners enrolled. In the event that the class does not reach the minimum enrollment, I will contact the parent to move their learner to a subsequent week. The length of the class is an estimate and may fluctuate slightly based on the number of performers that week. *Please note: This class is meant for students who already play the violin and want to perform the piece they are working on. Please contact me if your child is just getting started on the violin and is looking for private instruction.
Learning Goals
Students will have a chance to perform a piece for the class. They will also listen and be given the opportunity to provide encouraging and kind commentary to their peers. Some discussion topics may include practicing tips, best performance practices, how to feel more comfortable on stage, what to do the day of a big recital or audition, and much more. Students will learn valuable life skills pertaining not just to their instrument, but also in peer-to-peer interactions.

Parental Guidance
As this is a performance and discussion-based class, learners must be situated in a quiet room free of distraction and have their video cameras on at all times. This class is organized by age, not by skill level. Performers will all be at different levels and should remember to be kind and encouraging to their peers in group discussion. I have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying or disrespectful behavior towards other students. I reserve the right to remove a student who is not following the class guidelines.
Supply List
Learners should have a violin and bow in playing condition. Their violin should be tuned and ready to play when they come to class. They should contact me before class to let me know what piece they will be playing and provide me a picture or copy of the music if necessary.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional violinist in the Sarasota Orchestra and hold both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Violin Performance from two of the top music conservatories in the country. I have toured extensively with stars such as Josh Groban, Michael Buble, and Andrea Bocelli. I've been teaching the violin both online and in person for over a decade and have experience teaching students of all ages and experience levels from 5 years old to adult. In addition to my year-round private studio, I spend my summers serving as artist faculty at several prestigious music camps including the Dali Quartet International Music Festival in Philadelphia and the Porterville Strings Summer Workshop in California.
My current and past students have won auditions for prestigious arts high schools as well as their All State youth orchestras and have even won positions in regional orchestras. I believe that every student has the potential to learn the violin with the right instruction. Every child learns in their own unique way, so I tailor my teaching style to meet the needs of my students. My goal is to create a friendly and encouraging environment so your child can learn and grow confidently as a musician.
