Homework
1 hour per week. There will be suggested homework every week. The most important thing with learning to play music is to make it just that, 'play,' so I don't want kids to think of it as homework but to think of it as play. If what I suggest for homework sounds boring, we will think of creative ways together to make it more fun! Maybe we can apply the technique to a song you really love! Maybe that week you just play around with putting your fingers in different random places on the ukulele. The options are endless and as long as a learner is picking up the ukulele every week and 'PLAY'ing it in fun ways, this will help them immensely!

This is a one on one lesson for all levels. Beginner ukulele players will learn foundational skills. Intermediate ukulele students will advance their skills and learn more music theory. Advanced ukulele students may learn challenging techniques, songs, complex chords, and songwriting skills.. The topics that are covered in the session depend on the student's experience with ukulele. Once we cover the basics, I love teaching beginner music theory. I work with all ages by providing encouragement and the confidence to continue playing the ukulele. The lessons can be student-driven if there are any specific songs they are interested or excited to learn.

We may cover the following topics
- The parts of the ukulele
- Chords
- How to strum
- How to push down strings
- Rhythm and Dynamics
- Songs chosen by the teacher or by the student
- Beginner music theory
- Reading ukulele tabs
- Reading sheet music (not required)

I live with my husband in a wooden yurt on our farm near the mountains in Colorado. We are both music and writing teachers on Outschool. He teaches guitar as well as the instruments that I teach! His name is Steven Middendorp. I have been teaching ukulele on Outschool for about four years now and I love that I get to teach what I am so passionate about! The classes I teach include ukulele, banjo, general music, farming/gardening classes, and English classes. I have my bachelors degree in Sociology and three years experience teaching English as a second language. I have 7 years experience in gardening and taking care of farm animals. I believe learning should be fun and should be tailored to students as individuals with their individual gifts and challenges.
