What's included

1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
There isn't any homework for this class. If some students wish to go deeper with expanding on and editing their stories, I'd be happy to host a separate Writer's Workshop where we could do that! :) Just let me now!
Assessment
Students are assessed by their participation -- this means active listening, an openness to share (and practicing the courage and confidence that goes with this!), as well as doing their best to write a story of their own.

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
Each week, we'll read and discuss a new story. Then, students will have an opportunity to write a story of their own! :)

I'll give guidance for a starting place for their story, and help them create a simple "idea page" to get their ideas written down with ease, based on the theme or topic of the book selected that week.

At the end, students will have the opportunity to share and celebrate their awesome stores!

A perfect way to bring some extra creativity, writing and story-telling fun into your child's week! :)

Here is a list of some of the stories we'll be reading:
Dog in Boots
I'm Gonna Like Me
Ruby Mae Has Something to Say
Do Unto Otters
Rocket Writes a Story
Guess How Much I Love You
Only One You
My Rhinoceros
Learning Goals
Students will listen to and identify key elements within a story.
Students will reflect on their own experiences and connections to the story.
Students will use creativity to write their own story.
Students will share their stories and encourage the sharing of others with compassion, kindness, and respect.

Story Time and Writer's Workshop were two of my FAVORITE things to teach as a classroom teacher. :) So I thought it would be fun to combine them and allow the inspiration and creativity of other authors inspire students to create stories of their own, as a way to get their creativity rolling and exploring their unique perspectives and abilities as writers.
