Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Are you looking for writing help for your learner in a semi-private class? If so, this is a great way to engage your learner with writing in a weekly tutoring session.

Having taught many learners ( K - 5th) in group writing classes, I am expanding my writing instruction to small group learners. Many parents have enjoyed my Little Learners, Pencil Pack, and Pencil Pal writing courses that have 4 - 6 learners, but expressed interest in having more direct instruction and time to work with their learner.

With that said, I have designed a course to meet those needs. My semi-private class will only have two - three learners at a time so we can really focus on what your child needs help with in writing. I will offer sessions by age group so that your learner would be paired with someone of a similar age and/or writing level.

Each week our lessons will focus on sentence structure (complete thought, punctuation, capitalization, etc.), adding details to expand our writing, and even spelling! I will always ask families to message me a list of specific skills you'd like your learner to work on during our sessions so I can individualize and differentiate instruction based on your learner's needs. As a parent or care-giver, you know what's best for your learner and I am excited to help support their learning.

If you'd like to have someone else you know with your child, feel free to invite a friend, family member, neighbor, or even school classmate to join. If not, you will have the opportunity to meet someone new from the Outschool community.

I am a licensed teacher and hold a Master's in Reading and am Nationally Board Certified. I currently work as a school librarian, but have taught 2nd and 3rd grade for many years. Instilling a love of reading is important to me as reading is the gateway to all learning! It also is important to foster writing skills and making writing fun is one of my specialties.

After each session, I will send out an assignment that will allow your child to continue working on skills practiced during our session. It is up to each individual family as to whether they want their learner to complete the assignment. I offer it to everyone and those that wish to take advantage of it are encouraged to submit it me at least 1 day prior to the next session. Upon receiving the assignment, I will review your child's work and provide feedback.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please reach out to me via the Outschool message option. Thank you and I hope I can help your child have a positive learning experience!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am excited to have the opportunity to work with your child as reading and writing are key to learning! I was a classroom teacher in the public school system for 16 years teaching 2nd and 3rd grade. I also worked as a STEM teacher, designing and implementing the program for my school. I then transitioned to the library where I have worked over the past 5 years in an elementary school library. I love sharing my passion for books in all my Outschool classes!

I earned my B.A. Psychology and hold a minor in Elementary Education. I also have a Master's in Reading and served as a Fulbright Teacher as part of their Teacher Exchange program. With the onset of the pandemic, I was able to work for my state's Department of Education writing their online content for Grade 3 Language Arts and 5th grade science. Having taught just over 2 years on Outschool, I love to keep learning fun and exciting online!

I believe every student deserves my best and I strive hard to offer high quality instruction. I want your child to succeed and feel confident in the skills we work on in our sessions. I love when a learner's mind lights up and they "get it". Helping your child make those connections is part of the joy of teaching. It is my goal your child feels more confident and takes ownership of their learning to help develop them into life-long learners. I can't wait to work with your child!
