A PIANO BOOK IS NEEDED FOR THIS CLASS (Wunderkeys Piano for Preschoolers Book 3 2nd edition by Andrea Dow). The book is only available on Amazon. Please order the book ASAP, the link is posted under Supplies, thank you! Many parents find themselves unable to find piano teachers who are willing to teach preschoolers. I was one of those teachers until I discovered Wunderkeys! I have been successfully using this program for 4 years now. It is designed for young learners and it keeps them moving! They learn about rhythm, notes, finger numbers, math, and high/low sounds. Everything is taught using 5 fun, friendly Wunderkeys animal characters. Kids learn to love music while being introduced to the basics of piano which sets them up for future musical lessons. There are a total of 3 Wunderkeys preschool books, this class completes Book 3. I do offer classes for Books 1 and 2; however a 5-6 year old should be able to jump right in with this book. (All students will need a parent/adult helping them). I am a friendly, laid-back teacher who loves to meet preschoolers from all over the country! Book 3 builds on the foundation laid in Books 1 and 2! The same lovable Wunderbie characters return. Whole notes are introduced and students will get to add rhythm to their duets and songs played. One important skill that is emphased in Book 3 is recognizing directional movement while reading notes. If a student can learn if a note moves "up" (higher) or "down" (lower) this will help them read music much faster! They will also learn which notes are played with the right hand (stems up) and left hand (stems down). All of the skills introduced are designed to give them a smooth transition into the Wunderkeys Primer books that follow the preschool books. Each week we will cover a different lesson in the book (see below for purchasing information from Amazon). Book 2 has 10 lessons and we will complete 1 lesson per week. We will cover the following topics: * rhythm clapping * writing numbers and counting * finger numbers using animal characters * bass and treble clef sounds * note values * patterns * geography of the piano * music games Week 1 -Hog Podge House Week 2 - Brook Busters Week 3 - Hooked on Fun Week 4 - Mud Puddle Mambo Week 5 - Bearied in Butterflies Week 6 - Ladder to the Leaves Week 7 - Belly Floppin' With Baboons Week 8 - Dog Park Delight Week 9 - Sleeping Panda Ranch Week 10 - Graduation Day

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Julie Schmidt and I have 16 years of experience teaching individual and group piano lessons. Also, I have been playing and studying the piano for 35 years while earning a MS in Education. Music is definitely my passion. My favorite part of teaching the piano is finding out what kind of music motivates my students. Some of my students like reading the notes on the staff, playing classical music, and not straying far from the printed notes. Other students play more by ear and love to improvise! I always have a few students who want to be able to play songs quickly - I teach them chords and leadsheets so they can progress faster. I like to tailor my lessons to get a student excited about playing the piano. I use a variety of books, digital music, and resources to keep my lessons new and motivate my students to practice.
I have a laid-back teaching style and love to have fun during lessons. We will play games, improvise, compose, learn chords, and study different musical periods and composers. I really enjoy it when students bring their own music to lessons because I know that they are motivated to learn it!
Along with piano I have also earned a degree in Dietetics, owned a baking business, homeschooled my 3 children for a few years, taught in the public school, and taught Sunday School to middle schoolers. Luckily I did not do all of these things at the same time! I love reading, baking, line dancing, and attending concerts.
