Weekly Homeschool Support Classes: ELA Grades 3 & 4

Each lesson will include an engaging introduction, a group lesson, an activity, and an assessment of understanding. Following each session, each student will be given work to complete at home to further develop understanding and a progress report explaining what was taught as well as the child's level of understanding. If a student has not yet grasped the lesson, I will be personally creating follow-up activities for the child to work on to help support the child's learning and prepare for the next session. Below are the topics for the first four weeks of study: Week 1: December 1st at 3:00 PM: Theme: Key Ideas and Details Topic: Standard RI.3.1: Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answer Week 2: December 8th at 3:00 PM: Theme: Key Ideas and Details: Topic: Standard RI. 3.2: Determine the main idea of a text; recount the key details and explain how they support the main idea Week 3: December 15th at 3:00 PM: Theme" Key Ideas and Details: Topic: Standard RI. 3.3: Describe the relationship between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text, using language that pertains to time, sequence, and cause/effect. Week 4: December 22nd at 3:00 PM: Theme: Craft and Structure: Topic: Standard RI.3.4: Determine the meaning of general academic and other domain specific words and phrases in a text; deduce the meaning of new vocabulary for more efficient test taking skills. Each week following will continue moving through various themes and topics to ensure all standards are met and understood.
Learning Goals
In this course, we will be assessing current understanding and learning styles. Following this, we will be reviewing conventions of standard English, informational text, text features, key ideas and details, craft and structure, work on foundational reading skills, and review each grade level standard.

Nothing here will be inappropriate, political, or relevant to any topics outside of ELA and literacy.
Supply List
Students will require a computer or tablet, writing notebook, pencil, crayons, whiteboard, and a dry erase marker. If any other materials are needed, they will be easily accessible, affordable, and asked for one to two weeks in advance.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
