I suggest having a notebook to bring to class. Students may also type if they prefer. Optional: students can keep notes on the different skills and techniques we go over.

Each class will be structured as following:
1) Students will learn a new skill or technique. This will be a collaborative process.
2) Students will write based on the prompt - students will make sure to include the learned skill or technique in their draft. If students have questions, they can either use the "raise hand" function or use the chat box. I will play instrumental music to help inspire creativity. I will also be writing based on the prompt.
3) We will share the prompts. Students are not required to share, but it can be fun. If they would prefer, students can also send me what they have written privately through the Outschool messaging in the classroom.

As this is an on-going class, feel free to join and leave at your family's convenience. If there is a specific creative/descriptive skill or technique you'd like your student to practice, feel free to message me and I can focus on it one specific week.
Learning Goals

I have taught writing, grammar, and Language Arts to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students for two years at a Utah-based charter school. We would focus on writing prompts numerous times during the week, using the exact same set-up I am using for this Outschool class.
