Description
Class Experience
In this fun and creative weekly course, students will learn about various (non-technical) aspects of photography and will be given varying creative challenges at the end of each class as homework. This is a highly interactive class so students will be encouraged to talk during class, share their opinions, and talk about their work. Because this is a 1:1 class, it can be tailored to fit your learner’s needs! This creative photography class will help learners see photography as an art form...
Learners will come to see photography as an art form within their grasp and they will finish each week's class having completed another creative photo which they can add to their photography portfolio.
I took photography classes in college as well as supplementary photography classes at a local art school. While I learned how to develop my own film in a dark room, I prefer digital photography so much more! Because my college classes focused on black and white photography, I have a special appreciation for the power that both black and white and color play in a photo's mood. I have assisted a professional photographer to learn more about wedding photography but soon realized I prefer more artsy photography than taking pictures of bridal parties. I enjoyed hosting a casual and fun photography event over zoom last year and I take photos almost daily as a hobby. I have traveled to several continents using different quality cameras (point and shoot, DSLR and more recently my camera phone!) to capture the moment and am always finding symbolism and meaning in everyday objects. I strongly believe in these famous words: the best camera is the one you have. If you have the artist eye and a vision, that's all that matters.
At the end of class, a creative photography assignment will be given to challenge students to use what we learned that day. The focus of each homework assignment will be on the learner's creativity when shooting pictures.
Learners will be expected to have a camera to complete the assignments given. Camera phones are acceptable for this class. If a learner is able to edit their photos, any photo editing program can be used. If your learner is using a phone to edit, there are many free photo editing apps available and basic editing capabilities are often already part of the phone as a default.
50 minutes per class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
