Description
Class Experience
In this class, learners will strengthen their creative muscles as they take on a new art challenge every week of the year with other, young artists. ___________________________________ Class structure: Each week, we will start by discussing the challenge of the week, so everyone understands how it works. If it requires students to have something specific on-hand, (such as a toy to use as a drawing model or a printable,) we will spend a moment making sure everyone is prepared. Finally, we...
Students will improve their fine-motor skills by drawing and coloring. They will have a chance to improve their social skills by interacting with other students. Some challenges will help improve their planning skills and their understanding of color theory, as they decide how to use a limited number of colors or try to invert all the colors of a picture. Some challenges will also help them improve their problem-solving skills, as they try to find a way to create what they want while keeping to the rules of the challenge.
I love doing artistic challenges and think they're a great way to not only have fun but strengthen your imagination and creative thinking skills.
• Markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc (Student's choice, except for a few specific challenges, before which I will let students know what they will need on the classroom page.) • Most challenges will require a blank sheet of paper to work with, but some will need a printable or coloring page. Which is required for each week can be found in the class description or on the classroom page. • For Week 4 (November 13-19, 2022), students will need multiple crayons, markers, and pencils in the same colors, as we will be drawing one at random and can only use that color for our picture, but can use as many mediums as we like. • For Week 31 (May 21-27, 2023), students will be using glue and any decorative medium they like to decorate their picture. (Glitter, buttons, beads, etc.) • For Week 34 (June 11-17, 2023) and Week 52 (October 15-21, 2023), students will need at least one gaming die to roll. (Can be borrowed from any board game.) • For Week 36 (June 25, 2023 - July 1, 2023), students will need their favorite piece of art they've ever made. • For Week 37 (July 2-8, 2023), students will need a pair of scissors and some glue.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Week 31 of this class (May 21-27, 2023) will be using glue and any materials the students like to fill in their picture. (Glitter, beads, sequins, buttons, etc.) Week 37 (July 2-8, 2023) will be using scissors and glue to cut and paste objects onto their picture.
For some challenges, I will provide several coloring pages, and students are welcome to choose the one they like to work with each week or bring their own. For other challenges, I will provide a specific printable that will be needed for that class. These will be clearly marked in the class description and on the classroom page.
