As a Study Hall, there is no specific homework other than what is assigned by your instructor. Occasionally, videos or other teaching aids may be shared, but viewing them is not mandatory.Assessment
The hope is that participation in Algebra Study Hall will support a student in their other Algebra class.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
This is the Outschool equivalent of a regular Algebra study hall, where peers and a competent tutor are together for an hour at a time, able to explain and encourage one another in the pursuit of Algebra. We meet once a week, though you can sign up for multiple sessions if you want more. (We used to meet twice a week, but a majority of students only came once a week, so I've changed the schedule). The expectation is that students who join this study hall are enrolled in an Algebra course elsewhere, online or in person, and need a bit more support. Some students benefit purely from setting aside time each week to work on Algebra assignments - you actually don't need to talk to anyone to benefit from attending Study Hall. That said, I've tutored Algebra for decades, and am ready to answer questions as necessary. Besides meeting together weekly, students will have access to the online classroom, as well, if questions arise outside our regular sessions. Students are expected to work on Algebra assignments during the hour-long sessions, either homework from their Algebra class or related study. As an experienced tutor, I can generate relevant practice problems as needed. Everyone will have an opportunity to ask questions, though students with greater needs may be encouraged to sign up for independent study. Basically, this is the online equivalent of an after school study hall session focused on Introductory Algebra. Class photo by Christina Morillo from Pexels
Learning Goals
Students are expected to be taking Algebra somewhere else (or here on Outschool), and this Study Hall is intended to support that. Participation in Algebra Study Hall should improve a student's performance in their Algebra course.
